Glioma

Definition: A glioma is a type of tumor that occurs in the brain and spinal cord, originating from glial cells which surround nerve cells and provide support and insulation.

Current Status and Incidence: Gliomas comprise about 30% of all brain and central nervous system tumors, and 80% of all malignant brain tumors.

Treatment Methods: Treatments include surgery to remove the tumor, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The course of treatment depends on the tumor's location, size, and type, as well as the patient's overall health.

Recurrent Glioma

Definition: A Recurrent glioma refers to a glioma that has recurred after treatment. Recurrence can occur with any type of glioma.

Current Status and Incidence: The recurrence rate of gliomas is high, particularly for malignant types like glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), which often recur within months to a couple of years after initial treatment.

Treatment Methods: Treatment for recurrent glioma may involve additional surgery, a different form of chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and clinical trials.
